What is Coaching?
How does coaching differ from
consulting, counseling and therapy?
Coaching is much different. Coaching allows the coach and client to create a
collaborative partnership that aims at discovering strengths of the client and
developing strategies to enhance those strengths. In other words, the client
sets the agenda, and the client develops the strategies. Consulting involves a
client who needs direction and a consultant to provide the strategies for
moving in that direction. Therapy and Counseling are provided by licensed
therapists and psychologists. Coaching For Quality provides neither of those
services.
What can I expect from a
coach?
You can expect a coach with good listening skills who will help you identify
the skills you already possess and how to build on those existing qualities.
Since coaching is a co-creative relationship, it is the client who sets the
agenda and who ultimately discovers the answers to existing issues and
concerns. They are known as "aha" moments. The coach, on the other
hand, is the facilitator of the desired change or effect.
Will my coaching sessions be
confidential?
Absolutely! Your coaching sessions will not be discussed with anyone, including
your family members or employers. Coaching is an opportunity to freely discuss
areas you want to build, and will only be used to help you grow personally
and/or professionally.
How long will I have a coach?
You can engage in a coaching relationship for as little or as long as you need.
However, a minimum of commitment of 3 months is recommended in order to fully
understand your goals and make reasonable progress.
Where and how often do we
meet?
Typically the coach and client meets once a week (3 weeks in a month) for
45-minute sessions each. Meetings can take place away from work or home in a
neutral environment, but will occur by phone. This reduces traveling by both
coach and client, and allows the client to select a location that is most
suitable and comfortable for meetings.
